Grease and oil stains are the worst. Everyone knows that feeling when rocking their favorite shirt or pair of pants and then they spill on it. Since grease and oil stains settle deep into clothing fibers, they're tough to remove and can permanently ruin clothes if not acted upon quickly enough. Everyone has had at least one of their favorite articles of clothing ruined after they spilled grease or oil on it.
That's why we're covering exactly how to get the toughest grease or oil stains from clothing. That way, we can help everyone make those pesky grease stains a distant memory and preserve their favorite clothes for life. Getting a grease or oil stain out is difficult and time-consuming but with our guidance and persistence, anyone can remove these stains and make their clothes look brand new.
Method Number 1: The Baking Soda Method
For this method, we’ll need some baking soda and paper towels. Start by laying the clothing on a flat surface and blot the excess grease or oil around the stain with a paper towel. Don’t EVER start by rinsing the fabric because the grease stain will seep further into the fibers of the clothes and risk ruining them permanently. Instead, excess grease can be removed by gently blotting the area around the stain with a paper towel. After this, it's time to put the baking soda into action and let it work its magic. Sprinkle the baking soda lightly over the grease or oil stain and let it sit for 24 hours.
After the baking soda has sat for 24 hours and settled into the clothing fibers to absorb the stain, it’s time for the next steps. Gently scrape off the baking soda with a soft brush. A toothbrush will do the trick just fine. Now we can rinse the stain. Grab a solution of equal parts water and vinegar and spray around the stain several times. This will prime the fibers of the clothing for stain removal. After completing all these steps, it’s finally time to put the stained clothes in the washer. Adding some laundry booster or bleach will deepen the cleaning process and remove the stain more effectively. After pulling the clothes out of the washer and putting them through a drying cycle, they’ll be good as new. The baking soda method isn't the only effective meethod for stain removal. For those who don't have access to baking soda, the chalk method will also do the trick.
Method Number 2: The Chalk Method
The only supplies we'll need for this method are paper towels and chalk. As shocking as it may sound, chalk is highly effective at removing minor stains. As in the baking soda method, start by blotting the area around the grease or oil stain with a paper towel. Again, we can’t stress it enough, NEVER rinse the fabric first. Otherwise, it could risk further staining the clothes and ruining them permanently. Once the excess grease is gone, it’s time to let the chalk work its magic. Scrubbing the stain gently with chalk will absorb the grease or oil that’s started to settle into the fibers of the clothing. After using the chalk on the grease stain, let it sit for a few minutes.
Once the clothes have sat for a few minutes, it’s time to throw them in the washer. Our high-powered washers will make any clothing look brand new when combined with our laundry tips. The grease stain is only treatable this way once. It needs to be done quickly for the best chance of removing the grease. Otherwise, there’s a chance that the grease stain could become permanent and ruin the clothing in question.
